We have continued with our Moses scripture hero. A few weeks ago, we had our lesson on the Holy Ghost. We learned about Moses's experience with the burning bush and we had our own burning bush with each flame asking a question about the Holy Ghost. After we answered the question, we could put the flames onto the bush.
Today, we had our family night on Sibling Conflict Resolution. We talked about how even Moses had trouble with his sibling. Miriam spoke out against Moses and was smitten with leprosy for seven days. We discussed strategies to help resolve fights and solve problems with our siblings. Ben and I role-played different scenerios that Devin and Layne play out dozens of times a day and we discussed what strategies we could use to solve the problems. We did a "Two Boys want to Play with the Same Toy" scenerio, a "Pest" scenerio where one boy is purposefully needling the other into a fight, a "Play Fight that Turns Ugly" scenerio where it starts out fun and ends up a brawl, and a "Resistant Playmate" scenerio where one kid just doesn't want to play. The kids got a real kick out of us playing Obiwan Kenobi, light sabers, and then fighting like they do. I think Devin got a lot out of it, but it didn't seem to sink in much for Layne. Maybe he picked up more than I think he did. Devin wanted to make a sign with our strategies on it and hang it in the dining room so he could remember them. I love that! We made the sign, and drew some pictures to help them remember what the words said.
Next week is "Parting the Red Sea; the Reality of God's Power."
